Itinerary

Huaraz – Punta Olímpica Tunnel – Cancaracá Lake – Chacas – Huaraz

Departure is at 8:00 am heading north of the city of Huaraz until reaching the Province of Carhuaz. From here we will take the road that goes to the Conchucos Valley through the Ulta Valley. Along the way we will find the control point of Huascarán National Park, where we will make the corresponding payment to continue our journey along the winding paved road until reaching the Punta Olímpica Tunnel (4736 m). Here we will have time to take good photos of the surrounding mountains such as Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Contrayerbas, and Mateo itself, where we will surely observe climbers ascending and descending this mountain.

After passing through the tunnel, we will have a view of the beautiful Cancaracá Lake, with time for photos, and then descend to the town of Chacas (3350 m). We will visit the main square (Plaza de Armas), which is surrounded by colonial houses with beautifully carved wooden windows and balconies. Visit to the Church of Mama Ashu, and we will enter the Don Bosco Cooperative Workshop, where wood carving, glass art, and textile work are carried out. After lunch, we return to Huaraz.
