This tour takes us to Chavín, a town located on the other side of the Cordillera Blanca in the Conchucos Valley. Here we can visit Chavín, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which features some of the oldest and most significant pre-Inca ruins in Peru, as well as the Chavín National Museum, which has been recently renovated and is well worth visiting. We depart every day except Mondays.

Itinerary

Huaraz – Cahuish Tunnel – Chavín de Huántar – Huaraz

Departure time for this tour is at 8:30 am. We will travel with our tourist transportation toward the south of the city of Huaraz through the Conchucos Valley and to the millenary Temple of Chavín de Huántar. During the journey we will visit the towns of Recuay and Cátac, and then arrive at Querococha Lake, where we will have approximately 20 minutes to enjoy the landscape offered by the lake. We will then observe a geological fault that has the shape of the map of Peru. Continuing our route, we will reach the highest point of the tour, which is the Cahuish Tunnel. From here we enter the Conchucos Valley, and a little further on we arrive at our destination, Chavín. We will visit the Archaeological Monument of Chavín, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will visit labyrinths, galleries, the Square Plaza, the Circular Plaza, and the Cabezas Clavas, considered guardians of the temple. We will also learn about the Portal of the Falconids and the famous Lanzón Monolithic. After lunch, we will finally visit the Chavín National Museum, where a large number of Cabezas Clavas are exhibited, as well as the Tello Obelisk and a replica of the Raimondi Stele.
