Distance

This mountain is located in the Marcará district, Carhuaz province, Ancash department, in the Cordillera Blanca. It is known for being an easy six-thousand-meter peak to climb, despite having several crevasses to cross and navigate during the ascent to the summit. It is very appealing to many climbers and skiers and is easily visible from the city of Huaraz.

Itinerary

Day 1. Huaraz (3100 m) – Vicos Village (3150 m) – Base Camp (4600 m)

After breakfast at the chosen hotel, we will transfer with our private transportation to the picturesque village of Vicos (approximately 1.5 hours). During the journey, we will pass through many Andean villages with different customs and traditions, enjoying beautiful views of mountains and valleys. In Vicos, our muleteer and pack animals will be waiting to transfer us to Base Camp (approximately 5 hours of hiking). Slightly above our camp is Legiacocha Lake, with a good view of our mountain, Copa.

On this day, we move with the help of the porters. We continue our ascent along a rocky trail until reaching a small glacier with rocks, where we will put on the necessary mountaineering equipment to continue our climb along a couloir trail with hard ice, and then onto a walkable snow ramp to reach our camp, which is located among the rocks. Total ascent time: approximately 5 hours. Overnight in tents.

We wake up around midnight to continue our ascent to the summit (approximately 8 hours). The trail navigates around crevasses and some snow ramps. After taking beautiful photos at the summit, we will descend back to High Camp and then to Base Camp.

After our last breakfast, we begin descending along the same trail used for the ascent to the village of Vicos, where our private transportation will be waiting to transfer us back to the city of Huaraz.
