Located about 20 km east of the City of Huaraz on the route to the villages of Llupa and Pitek. It is one of the most beautiful and most visited lagoons in this area due to its proximity to the City. The hiking access from Pitek goes along a slightly steep zigzag trail, and in some parts, there are steel cables installed for holding on and crossing rocky sections.
Type of tour: Adventure
Itinerary
Huaraz (3100m) – Llupa – Pitek – Churup Lagoon (4450m) – Huaraz
We leave at 7:00 am with our tourist transportation heading to a place called Pitek, approximately 45 minutes away. Here, we start the hike along a trail that gradually ascends until reaching the Lagoon. Along the way, we pass the Huascarán National Park checkpoint where we need to pay the entrance fee to the lagoon. The views are impressive throughout the hike; we pass through the quenual forest and do a bit of rock climbing, holding onto the steel cables, until we reach our destination. After enjoying our lunch and taking great photos, we return along the same trail to meet our transportation and then head back to Huaraz.
