The name comes from the Quechua word Pishqu, which means Bird. In 1951, Franco-Belgian climbers made the first ascent to the summit and renamed it “Pisco” because the achievement was celebrated with the Peruvian drink Pisco. It is considered the balcony of the Cordillera Blanca due to its height and location, offering a 360° visual dominance of the most emblematic mountains of the entire Cordillera Blanca.

The ascent of Pisco Mountain does not present major technical difficulties, so reaching the summit is relatively easy via the Southwest Ridge, which is the normal route.

William was our guide for Pisco. He had us do it as an acclimization peak, but still made it feel like a big accomplishment. Because of his hospitality, we were able to set up a high camp and reach the summit!
