It is one of the most impressive natural gems of Peru, located in Huascarán National Park in the Ancash region. It is one of the most visited tourist destinations by hiking and mountaineering enthusiasts due to its easy access and the spectacular views it offers.

It is a small lagoon near the city of Yungay, in the Ancash region. It is one of more than 400 lagoons that are part of Huascarán National Park, which is considered a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and a Natural World Heritage Site.

It is called this because, according to the inventory of high Andean lagoons in Huascarán National Park, it ranks sixty-ninth among the more than 400 glacial lagoons.
